Burning Music is a musical production company operated by Winston and Sonia Rodney in Queen's New York and exists to promote and distribute the creative work of Winston Rodney's long established musical venture, commonly known as 'Burning Spear'. In the early years, Burning Music
operated primarily as a production company that then licensed its creative output to major record labels such as EMI. Burning Spear's popular album from that year, 'Hail H.I.M.' was the first product created under this arrangement with Winston Rodney producing, arranging studio time and booking musicians to create the finished LP for worldwide distribution. Under this arrangement, Burning Music Productions delivered several completed albums of music to EMI, Island and Heartbeat Records for worldwide distribution.
Albums released by Heartbeat through an agreement with Burning Music include: 'The World Should Know' (1993), 'Rasta Business' (1995), 'Appointment with His Majesty' (1997) and the Grammy award winning 'Calling Rastafari' (1999). 'Calling Rastafari' was the last completed album to be solely pressed by an outside label. Since then, Burning Music has released an additional two new Burning Spear studio albums - 'Our Music' (2005) and the Grammy winning 'Jah is Real' in 2008.
Burning Spear albums that have been re-released on the Burning Music label in deluxe and/or remastered editions include:
'Resistance', 'People of the World', 'Mistress Music', "Live In Paris', 'The World Should Know', 'Rasta Business', 'Living Dub Volumes 1 - 4', 'Appointment With His Majesty' and 'Calling Rastafari'.
Burning Music is currently at work on the long awaited Burning Spear documentary to be released in the near future.
